The transducer is powered and driven by a control box. The transducer creates the ultrasound on the underwater surfaces which it is in contact with. Each transducer is connected by cable to the control box.
Each cable may be 60 metres (possibly more) from the control box. The cable is what is recognised as satelite dish coaxial cable with RG6A connectors; and therefore is readily made by customer’s to exact lengths.
The transducer must be placed with firm bond to the interior surface of the hull at the suitable position. Check our detailed page Ultrasonic Antifouling Systems.

Installation
Safety:
Exercise caution when working on the vessel, especially in confined spaces or when working near the bottom or “bilge” area of the boat.
Make sure the work area is properly ventilated prior to beginning installation due to the solvent used in the glue, but also these areas may contain residual fuel or fumes that can be harmful when inhaled.
Extreme vigilance should be used in these spaces especially when working alone.
A basic understanding of drilling, sanding and the vessel’s electrical system are needed for the installation work required.
Pre-installation:
Ensure the outside hull is clean and clear of bio-fouling. Ultrasonic antifouling is a subtle process which will not clean an already fouled hull. It is designed to keep a hull clean.
We recommend you make a drawing of the boat layout and consider suitable places to position each transducer. Extra transducers can always be added to a system. Transducers can also be moved (depending on the strength of the bond adhesive used).
We happily provide a free design survey, just get in touch.
About ultrasonic antifouling systems Contact UsRecommended glue:
Isopon P38, Devcon or similar epoxy resin which are readily available from local stores or often already held by boat owners.
For example (on Amazon and other online retailers):
- Devcon 14ml 2 Ton Epoxy Flow-Mix (Syringe, Carded) Glue, or
- Devcon 22045 Plastic Welder - 25 ml Dev-Tube
(We don't include this normally since it is so commonly held by boat owners, and adds to the shipping costs.)
Positioning:
A reasonably flat solid area of the hull should be chosen and the surface should be cleaned and smooth before mounting a transducer. There must be no padding, coatings, roughness, unevenness on the area there transducer is to be installed.
Ultrasonic antifouling only works on glass reinforced plastic/ fibre, aluminium or steel hulls; not wooden hulls and items.
Boats with keels will require transducers each side of the keel, unless it is a boat around 10 metres in length.
Stainless studs can be supplied for welding to water and oil tanks to help in the installation of the transducer.
Transducers should be fitted approximately 30cms off the centre line.
On power craft under 10m in length, the transducer should be positioned in the close proximity of the propeller and shaft to help protect these isolated parts.
For stern drive units, transducers should also be approximately 10 to 13cms forward of the transom.
Usually the bonding adhesive has only a few seconds of working time and therefore the adhesive, transducer and hull or item position needs to be immediately placed without moving the transducers for many hours later.
